Step Inside the Casacor Miami Show House

The Brazilian interior designer show house has brought 25,000 square feet of top-notch design to the city.

Downtown Miami is booming. The burgeoning Brickell neighborhood, on the Miami River, is a 30-minute drive from historic South Beach. Dense with high-rises and power restaurants (à la Cipriani, Casa Tua, Zuma, the Mandarin Oriental), the financial district tripled its population from 2000 to 2016. The billions of dollars in new real estate are crying out for decorators to swoop in and work their magic – after all, those glass-box condos with coveted water views need furniture.

Enter Casacor Miami, the Brazilian interior designer show house that opened its doors once again at 700 Brickell Avenue during Art Basel. Inside, a slew of designers have transformed 25,000 square feet into a magical palace of design inspiration – perfect fodder for developers and homeowners in the area. Architects and decorators used an innovative mix of materials, proportions, and concepts to explore the themes of sustainability and urban living throughout the home. Below, AD PRO goes beyond the house’s Edge Collections elevator bank to tour the space – which is open through December 21.

“We wanted a muse,” designer Giselle Loor of the husband-wife team behind B+G Design tells AD PRO. “So we chose a few ’90s supermodels. We asked, ‘Where would Linda, Claudia, and Christy hang out?’” The minimal yet glamorous bedroom that resulted has all the trappings of a well-traveled fashion girl on the move. There’s an enormous black-and-white photography book by Mert and Marcus atop a Lucite stand, an agate bowl, and mysterious feathered objects affixed to the wall. Fittingly, there is also super-luxurious furniture by Fendi Casa and camel leather sconces that flank the bed. “This is different than our regular work, which is more contemporary and minimal,” designer Brett Sugarman explains.

In its third year, Casacor, the most complete architecture, interior, and landscaping design exhibition in North America, returned to the Magic City launching during Miami Art Week at Brickell City Centre. The 19-day exhibition brings interior and architectural designs that speak to minimalism, maximalism, experiential, conceptual, organic, as well as innovative design spaces.

This year’s exhibition features an international mix of 20 established and emerging designers, all inspired by sustainability and Miami’s urban infrastructure. Landscape artists have also curated living spaces to allow guests to truly connect with nature while creating a sense of belonging and calmness in the epicenter of Miami’s famed financial district.

“For Casacor Miami 2019, we are aiming to create a hub that brings architecture, landscaping, art, and interior design to the forefront of Miami Art Week and beyond,” said Lucio Grimaldi, CEO of Casacor Miami. “Over the past two years, Casacor Miami has broken the mold of the traditional interior design exhibition and bridged the gap between Miami Beach and inland Miami during Miami Art Week.”

Local talent such as Mr. Alex Tate Design, Guimar Urbina Interiors, B+G Design, Tamara Feldman Design, IG Workshop, Light on White Design Studio, and Studio RODA in collaboration with Odabashian are also showcasing their work at the carefully curated event. Interior designer, Tamara Feldman used local and international influence to create the concept for The Amalgam, a 500 square foot living room she designed with architectural details and a blend of interwoven bespoke elements that are sure to evoke the senses.

B + G Design’s Giselle Loor Sugerman & Brett Sugerman collaborated with Luxury Living Group on their “Sky High Retreat” concept for Casacor Miami 2019.

The glamorous bedroom and lounge inspired by legendary supermodel icons are feminine with rose gold and bronze colorways creating an elegant and sophisticated space. “The idea was to create a luxurious space where women could get ready and feel pampered,” says Giselle Loor Sugerman.

A custom marble bench holds Fendi Casa vases with rustic florals and global artifacts. The Icon Lady Desk brings in touches of brass complementing the butterfly metallic wallpaper. The sitting area features the Fendi Casa Thea chair showcasing the craftsmanship of the leather rope detail. The focal point of the design is the master suite where warm tones and wood flooring create a welcoming environment. Framed by cognac leather pendant lighting, the Montgomery bed with fur throw offers the ultimate in luxury.
